Aikido is a modern martial art created by the Founder of Aikido, Ueshiba Morihei, after rigorous mental training after he mastered the esoteric technique of the traditional Japanese martial arts. He explained that “True budo is not for the mischief of using strength to fight with others: it is to seek the truth of your own self-awareness,” and that path is embodied in Aikido.
Over 90 years have passed since the Aikido Hombu Dojo was built here in Wakamatsu-cho, Shinjuku-ku for the exclusive practice of Aikido, a one-of-a-kind martial art based on the philosophy of the Founder. Today, Aikido has become established domestically and internationally, and it is adored by people in over 140 countries and regions.
