Aikido Hombu Dojo

In 1931, in present-day Wakamatsu-cho Shinjuku-ku, the current Aikido Hombu Dojo was built as the “Ueshiba Dojo (Kobukan),” a specialized Aikido dojo. It was renamed the “Aikido Hombu Dojo” later. In 1967 the original wooden dojo was rebuilt, replaced by a three-story reinforced concrete building. The fourth and fifth floors were added in 1973, making a total of almost 250 tatami-mats in three dojos.
Currently, practices at the Aikido Hombu Dojo are led by Aikido Doshu Ueshiba Moriteru, Aikido Hombu Dojo-cho Ueshiba Mitsuteru, and the other Aikido Hombu Dojo instructors. The more than 70 hours of instruction per week include regular classes, beginner classes, women’s classes, a women’s special course, and children’s classes. In total it is more than 70 hours of instruction per week.
