Ibaraki Branch Dojo
The Ibaraki Branch Dojo was created by the Founder of Aikido Ueshiba Morihei in 1945, in Iwama Town, Ibaraki Prefecture (currently Kasama City, Ibaraki Prefecture), and it is under the direct supervision of the Aikido Hombu Dojo.
In 1941 the Pacific War began. The Founder, as a base to protect Aikido, made plans to establish the Aiki Shrine and build a dojo in Iwama Town, Western Ibaraki, Ibaraki Prefecture (currently Kasama City), and moved to the land the next year (1942).
The Aiki Shrine was completed in Showa 19 (1944). In 1945 the Aikido Shuren Dojo (Training Dojo), predecessor to today’s Ibaraki Branch Dojo, was completed. This Dojo became the Ibaraki Dojo, and then in Heisei 16 (2004) became the Ibaraki Branch Dojo. The Founder cultivated crop fields and lived a life of self-sufficiency while devoting himself to the training of Aikido in a lifestyle called “bu-noh-ichi-nyo”. After the War, he divided his time between the Aikido Hombu Dojo in Tokyo, and Iwama, and developed his disciples. Now, the Ibaraki Branch Dojo has practice on all days except public holidays, and practitioners from around Japan and overseas come to train.
